Flamingo Collage - mixed media 16 x 20 Joan Peters was born in Paris where she grew up surrounded by masterpieces at the Louvre, the Musee du Jeu de Paume and the Orangerie. She later lived in Barcelona, Spain, and Geneva, Switzerland before returning to France.
Graduating with a Master’s in Law from the Paris Law School, Joan also attended the Ecole du Louvre where she studied Art History. On the advice of her father who was certain that a career in art would lead to starvation, Joan embarked on a business career. She took over a manufacturing company of office supplies and within a few years successfully brought it back from the brink of bankruptcy to profitability.
Impressed by her success, the owner of a multinational food corporation hired Joan to open its New York office, where she spent ten years in various capacities. Her work took her all over the U.S. and the world, including China, Hong Kong and Bali. 
In the 1990’s, after moving to Florida with her husband, Joan visited Fort Lauderdale’s historic Bonnet House, donated to the state by Evelyn Fortune Bartlett. Joan was inspired by Mrs. Bartlett paintings and decided to return to her interest in art.
She began taking art classes at the Boca Museum Art School and Florida Atlantic University, and continued her studies with Mildred Reich, Maris Platais and George Shedd.
 Currently, she is a member of the Art League of Manatee County, Art Center of Sarasota, St. Petersburg Art Center, Artists’ Guild of Manatee, Women Contemporary Artists, National League of American Pen Women and the Sarasota Arts Council.
Although Joan has worked in watercolors, pastels and oils, she now favors acrylics and is exploring its many possibilities. She takes great pleasure in painting and enjoys communicating her love of color to her viewers.
In 2002, Joan opened the Joan Peters Gallery located in the “Village of the Arts” in Bradenton, Florida. In the short space of a year it has become one of the most popular spots in the Village and a favorite of visitors to the area. Her work is in private collections worldwide. |
